DESCRIPTION
The Nayars of Kerala had been a privileged community till the middle of the Nineteenth century. Marriage customs and polyandrous unions of Nayars have attracted scholars from all over the world. It focuses on the changing status of Nayar women especially the changes that happened in the position of women in both the matrilineal and patrilineal systems. It proves that the belief that the status of women in matrilineal system was better is a myth.
