The Digha Nikaya or collection of the long discourses of the Buddha has three compilations, which are known as Silakkhanda Vagga or division of discourse on morality (containing thirteen suttas or discourses), the Maha Vagga or large division (containing ten suttas) and the Pathika Vagga or the Pathika division (containing eleven suttas). The ten suttas translated in this book are Brahmjala, Samannaphala, Potthapada, Mahanidana, Mahaparinibbana, Mahasatipatthana Cakkavatti, Sampasadaniya, Pasadika and Singala. These are significant suttas explaining Buddhist doctrinal viewpoints and Ethical system as well as throwing light on social, cultural, Religious and Political conditions of Ancient India during the time of the Buddha. This translation is based on commentarial tradition. Atthakatha and Tika were constantly referred to as and when need arose during the course of translation..., The book contains useful footnotes on Buddhist terms and Index.
