DESCRIPTION
This monograph gives a comprehensive account of various groups of invertebrate fossils, viz. Foraminiferida, Ostracoda, Mollusca, Anthozoa and Bryozoa, from the uppermost Cretaceous-lower Palaeogene sediments represented by the Kakara-Subathu succession of the Himalayan foothills belt. It identifies stratigraphically important fossils for precise biostratigraphic correlation. The authors have recognised several faunal communities in the Kakara-Subathu succession and their study has led to interpretation of palaeoecology and palaeobiogeography during the latest Cretaceous-early Palaeogene times. The monograph will be useful to those working on the fauna of the Himalayan foothills belt as well as of other regions in the Tethyan realm. Systematically organised and concise text is supplemented by attractively illustrated photographs of fossils and rock sections in addition to field photographs spread over 45 well arranged plates, as well as by exhausative data in the form of tables, geological maps, biostratigraphic sections, etc. The work will be an invaluable reference for researchers, teachers and students of Palaeontology and allied disciplines, as also for various Palaeontology Laboratories engaged in exploration of hydrocarbons.
