In the Indo-Pak subcontinent, records of the indigenous system of medicine, known as Ayurveda, go back to 700 B.C. and its systematisation is attributed to Charac and Sushruta, who cited about 700 medicinal plants. Now great deal of interest has developed throughout the world in the investigation of medicinal plants, most of which is grow in hot and humid regions of the third world. Moreover, it is increasingly realized that the discovery of therapeutic agents of natural origin serves the dual purpose of enriching the pharmacopial spectum and providing valuable guide lines to studies in the synthesis of drugs modelled on the chemical structure of natural drugs. Taking into account the facts mentioned above the work undertaken to compile all the available information on Neem because it is a miracle tree gifted to mankind by the God. Almost every part of the tree has found application in indigenous medicine for the treatment of a variety of human ailments. On account of numerous creative properties of neem, efforts were made by us to published informations into a book, so that Scientists, Botanists and Research Workers can avail the opportunity for their further research work. |
