This book describes the internal and external aspects of Kashmir issue; makes understand the United States interest in Kashmir and put the major external powers interest in Kashmir in a proper perspective. This book is divided into seven chapters, starting from introduction which describes Kashmir perspective of United States into four major directions. First, United States tilt towards Pakistani stand on the Kashmir question. Secondly, America’s occasional support to India in the Kashmir and related contexts. Thirdly, United States dual policy vis-à-vis terrorism in Kashmir. Fourthly, politically motivated overt and covert postures of United States foreign policy on the Kashmir since India’s Independence in 1947.
The 2nd chapter describes Reasons/ causes/ issues behind the emergence of the Kashmir issue, since the signing of "Treaty of Amritsar" on March 16, 1946 between Maharaja Gulab Singh and East India Company. The 3rd chapter of this book deals with the Indian and Pakistan stand on Kashmir Issue, 4th chapter relates to international responses on Kashmir issue which has mostly remained three pronged, namely Indian oriented, Pakistan oriented and a neutral stand. This book shows brief expiations about responses of Russia, Britain, Germany, Canada and China. In 5th Chapter the book describes the United States interests and perspective on Kashmir issue till Clinton era and explains United States policy on Kashmir and the efforts, policy alternatives of various Presidents of United States during their visits to India and Pakistan and various statements regarding the solution of Kashmir problem. In 6th chapter the book deals with the United States paradigmatic shifts in the perspective on Kashmir issue and describes the policy and efforts of Clinton administration, George w. Bush and Obama Administration and their statements visits on resolving the Kashmir issue. The last chapter of this book throws light on major policy alternatives of India, Pakistan, United States and Britain and views of major political parties in India along with views of various major terrorist and other Groups. |
