This work is a compilation of articles presented in a National Seminar on "Critical Mass to Critical Action", held in Gandhigram Rural Institute. It discusses empowerment of women thorough a process of transfer of power from dominant social groups to marginalized and from men to women. in transition society. People who are in dominant position will not allow the power transfer very easily. They avolve different designs to retain power with them in different forms.
It focuses at the elected women representatives are drawn from different segments of the rural society and how they are able to occupy position and manage the office. It also discusses how the women leaders empower themselves and how they are able to bring the critical issues of the development of women in the decision making process of grass roots institutions. This book is based on the experience of elected women representatives of four southern states. It also focus more on the problems of the elected women representatives while handing power at hte grass roots.
