DESCRIPTION
The book is an endeavour to explore Ramayana and its characters as depicted in the three genres of comics graphic novels and films. A comics is a hybrid medium in which the verbal side is tied to the visual side conveying a narrative. A graphic novel is a narrative work in which a story is conveyed to the reader using sequential art in experimental design. In its narration process, it may also redefine its cultural appropriation making a story of the east suitable for a western audience hence familiarizing cultural and national icons with the others in the world. Future holds promise for such graphic novels with cross media appropriation that could be converted into films and games especially those based on myths as in their storyline myths and realities calesce and they penetrate the Indian minds. This book examines a comic Valmiki's Ramayana, two graphic novels Sita's Ramayana and Sita daughter of the Earth and a couple of films and television excerpts based on the most revered and popular Indian epic Ramayana.
