Trafficking of human beings especially of women and children, is one of the fastest growing lucrative trades. Trafficking of women for commercial sexual exploitation is a matter of concern as it violates human rights and is a serious blot on humanity. The reasons for the increase in trafficking of women and children are multiple and complex, affecting rich and poor countries alike and India is not exception to this. The points of origin are often the more deprived and backward places, regions or countries and the points of destination are often urban agglomerates within or across borders. The international and national agencies, governments and other stakeholders are equally conscious for prevention and combating such social problem, while serious efforts are being taken for rescue, rehabilitation of victims and their repatriation in family and society.
In view of the growing problem of trafficking of women and children, a National Seminar on the subject was organized to discuss and deliberate the pertinent issues, dimensions and way forward. Present volume is based on the seminar proceedings. It contains 32 well written papers covering the most important aspects of trafficking of women and children, such as emerging perspectives and scenario child trafficking in India socio-legal and economic dimensions. The papers identify articulate and appraise the critical challenges and issues related to trafficking in women and children in India with a view to combat this social evil from the society. The contributors have made their own assessment of the situation and have come up with their thoughtful suggestions and recommendations to provide new direction to fight against human trafficking prevailing in the society. It is expected that the volume will be highly useful for understanding the dynamics of this social problem and evolving road map for prevention and combating of trafficking in women and children besides rehabilitation and repatriation of trafficked victims. |
