The Government of India has passed the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act NREGA in September 2005, with a broad national consensus. Thus was hailed as a historic piece of legislation and people's act by several thinkers and writers on Panchayati Raj and rural development. The act provides for the enhancement of livelihood security of the households in the rural areas by providing at least one hundred days of guaranteed wage employment in every financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual labour.
This book not only introduces the reader with MGNREGA but also explains the impact of it on rural urban migration and rural livelihood. It describes the challenges and opportunities of MGNREGA towards transforming rural India and women empowerment. Finally the impact assessment of MGNREGA is studied in some selected districts of some states. |
