| This treatise comprehends valuable information on 570 ethnic uses of 204 plant spp belonging to 165 genera under 69 families (medicinal-153 spp representing 29% of the plants used ethnobotanically, edible-81 spp, sacred – 48 spp, fodder-47 spp, fuel-24 spp, veterinary ailments-20 spp, ornamentals-17 spp, scouring teeth-16 spp, agricultural implements-12 spp, fencing-9 spp, furniture-8 spp, bites-7 spp, dye-6 spp, fiber-5 spp, insect repellent-3 spp, magico-religious beliefs-3 spp, hair-care-3 spp, etc) by the rural communities of Pragpur –a region located between 76o-20’ East longitude and 31o-82’ North and declared as heritage due to its unique set up in the Shiwalik ranges of North-West Himalaya. To gain an over view of this region, detailed information on various aspects of the land, people and its rich cultural heritage is also provided. The subject matter has been illustrated with the help of 17 tables, 8 figures and 235 photographs. This should enable easy identification of the spp one may collect in this part of the Himalaya. More over, data on nutritional value, chemical constituents and total importance values (TIV) of ethnobotanically important species enhance the value of the treatise significantly.
