Gautama Buddha is also described as a God or prophet in other religions. Some Hindu texts say that the Buddha was an avatar of the God Vishnu, who came to earth to delude beings way from the Vedic religion. In such a state a being is said to possess the ten characteristics belonging to every Buddha. B.R. Ambedkar the founder f the Dalit Buddhist movement believed that Buddhism offered an opportunity for low caste and untouchable Hindus to achieve greater respect and dignity because of its non-caste doctrines.
