This book is an outcome of the extensive empirical investigation undertaken in two districts of Tamil Nadu namely Cuddalore and Kanyakumari with funding support from Universities Grants Commission (UGC). The topic being highly sensitive, exploratory and diagnostic, the author had to put maximum efforts to collect the original data from the respondents in the study districts. The author had also sought the assistance and support from leading voluntaries agencies, and committed NGOs, for establishing contact to gather the primary data in the remote coastal hamlets in the study area.
This book makes a comprehensive analysis of social structure, occurrence of various types of natural disasters, risky social life in coastal area, social exclusion and community preparedness in disaster management with particular reference to tsunami ravaged coastal area and suggest an action plan for combating tsunami in the coastal regions to ensure natural disaster/tsunami risk free social life.
