The, whole text of Bhagavata is divided into twelve Skandhas and usually recited by devotees in seven days and hence the term Saptaha-parayana has become familiar. The story was narrated to King Pariksit in the course of seven days. The tenth Skandha which is the basis for Vasudevavijaya is usually covered in the third and fourth days' saptaha. This skandha is divided into ninety chapters narrating the story from the Birth of Krsna up to his life in Dvaraka and his progeny. Vasudeva has made use of only the story embracing the first thirtyseven chapters of the tenth skandha to illustrate the grammatical aphorisms of Panini.
The present Edition is the first critical edition of the grammatical poem of the Kerala Poet. It is for the first time that the seven cantos of the-work are edited. |
