Glimpses of North East India: 200 knowledge cards
These two hundred knowledge cards take the reader on a journey into North East India covering all the eight States: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. Ninety-eight percent of the borders of the region are international borders with Nepal, Bhutan, China, Bangladesh and Myanmar. The region is geographically linked to the rest of India by the Siliguri corridor or the chicken neck which is barely 30 kms long.
This region has a high incidence of insurgency with about 100 rebel groups reflecting the alienation and grievances of the peoples of the Region who are involved in struggles for their future survival; their rich cultural traditions and amazing cultural heritage threatened with extinction.
The cards are divided into five sections: People, Places, Culture, History and Politics. These 200 knowledge cards give you glimpses into the serious problems facing the people living in the region. These cards are designed to arouse curiosity and concern about a part of our country we know so little. They can be used by schools for quizzes or for projects. They have something to offer to students, teachers, citizens and tourists.
The 200 knowledge cards come in an attractive box and a small book which gives an overall view of the North East and the text of the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity, 2001. |
