Statistics as a subject has come to acquire a great deal of importance during the past few decades. It is being increasingly used in different areas of human activity agriculture biology medicine psychology sociology and other disciplines in the social sciences. This has come about because the basic concepts and principles of statistics are essentially the same irrespective of the area in which these are sought to be applied. The statistical method presented in this book are of a general nature. However it is designed to serve the particular purpose of a textbook for an exhaustive course in statistics offered by many Indian and foreign universities in the disciplines of commerce economics and management.
As with the first edition of this book we have tried to achieve several important goals. First we wanted a book that really explained statistical thinking and the ideas of statistical inference rather than just giving formulas and examples as do many business statistics books. We also wanted to stress an intuitive understanding of statistical procedures and an understanding of what statistics is all about. |
