John Osborne was a leading post war British dramatist who created sensation by his famous play look back in anger. His play and other plays that succeeded after this drew the attention of both the audience and the reader towards anger, frustration and isolation of the youth who has suffered largely due to man made earthily injustices. The book I have written clearly reflects the playwrights treatment of the issues that he raised through his protagonists.
It is well known to all that John Osborne was such a dramatist who revolutionized the post-war theatre and drama through the performance of his first play look back in anger, and that he was the first dramatist after Bernard Shaw who has brilliantly taken up the social issues through his characters. I have, therefore, decided to bring such issues to the knowledge of Indian students. Though much has already been written about Osborne and his plays in the West, in India one can see little written about him. I therefore sincerely believe that his book shall be of great help to the readers of Osborne.
John Osborne's Look Back in Anger and the Entertainer are read as textbooks at Indian universities. I have felt that if a book on Osborne is made available to Indian readers they may have an opportunity of knowing in detail about both the dramatist and his plays. |
