One of the very important functions of hospitals at all levels is to enlighten community members for preventive health so that they can lead a decent and healthy life. In all research and teaching hospitals, community medicine department is set up so that doctors besides clinical knowledge may be made aware of the preventive services to people to keep them informed as to how they can keep themselves healthy.
Improvements in the health status of a population cannot be achieved simply by expanding and developing the health and hospital services. The prevention and control of disease and the promotion of health require a concerted effort for the improvement of human well being as a whole. In this task, what has been defined as health and Hospital Care has to be supported by improvements in the social and economic infrastructure and contributions from various sectors other than health.
The authors are of the view that health education should form an integral part of any medical education and training programme for all categories of personnel.
