This work is a compilation from several standard Persian, Urdu and Sanscrit Medical Works and is an attempt to popularise the use of native drugs. Its object is to give a full and accurate account of Native Materia Medica and their therapeutics in simple and popular language, so as to render it useful not only to medical students and practitioners, but also to the public at large. The work has been divided into eight parts viz:
* Description of the preparation of drugs and of the manner in which they are used in different diseases. * Classification and description of inorganic bodies. * Zoological classification and description of animals. * Botanical classification and description of plants. * Classification founded on physiological effects of drugs. * An alphabetical classification of diseases with the number referring to the prescriptions given in the body of the work. * An alphabetical classification of drugs used as substitutes for other or English Drugs; and * An alphabetical classification of drugs used as specifics in certain diseases.
The author trusts that his attempt to popularise Ayurvedic Materia Medica will meet with appreciation not only from the medical profession, but from the general public and that this book will prove an acceptable contribution to the history of native drugs and will form a basis of further researches in indigenous medicines.
