Rajasthan is a land of heros who sacrificed their life for the sake of the country. Many devalis, Kirtistambhas, gostambhas stand in their memory in different parts of the state having a record of their achievement. The pillar inscriptions, which are the main theme of the present work, are quite different from the larger inscriptions and the prashatis, while the former are couched in a language which is brief, to the paint, crisp and free from needless details, the language of the latter is showy, bambastic and eulogistic and the treatment exhaustive.
There are various types of pillars in the state which have a record inscribed on them. The sacrificial pillars are early in the point of time and indicate the religious trend prevalent at that time. There are others like kirtistambhas, gostambhas, cenotaph-stambhas, sati-stambhas which all have important records on them which unravel the historical datas of the past.
The present work deals with the inscriptions inscribed on these pillars. These records open up a new vista regarding various aspects of the contemporary community-life and throw a new light on the most eclipsed aspects of human history. |
