DESCRIPTION
The sustainable use of coastal and ocean resources is linked to public health, food security, and economic and social benefits, including cultural values and traditional livelihoods. More broadly, these issues are understood as decisive elements in the alleviation of poverty. Ironically, the major threat to the health, productivity and biodiversity of the world’s oceans is human activity on land-both in coastal areas and much further inland away from the sea.
