The mass media have an important role in modern society as the main channel of communication. The stronger and more purposeful the communication channels, the more development the countries and vice versa. The population relies on the news media as the main source of information and the basis on which they form their opinions and voting decisions. Any selection of messages in the mass media will thus have a profound effect on the entire society.
Media Today is the product of over three decades of teaching the introductory course, talking to colleagues around the country about course trends and issues in the scholarly and popular press. The hope is that readers will become critical, media literate consumers of mass media and, if they go on to work in mass media industries, more alert, sensitive practitioners. |
