Student supports is one of the neglected and least researched areas although its importance is high on the agenda of Open and Distance Learning System across the world. While support services in Open University is relatively structured, it is not so in dual mode distance education institutes. This book is the outcome of an empirical research study which explores and investigates the kind of support services provided to the students in single mode Open University and dual mode Distance Education Institute and the perception of the students about the services provided. The findings of the study suggest a framework for the development of a student support system especially in a dual mode university. It discusses about delivery of study materials, planning of assignment response sheets, organization of Personal Contact Programme lectures, management of study centres and additional support system including use of Information and Communication Technology.
The book would be of immense help to those involved in the planning and management of Open and Distance Learning in India, and those students and teachers who intend to pursue research in the field of Open and Distance Learning. |
