DESCRIPTION
The editor of this work is persuaded that those with an interest in military history will find this book of interest, dealing as it does with one of 'Queen Victoria's little wars'. The action took place during the mid nineteenth century in a country where few foreigners, apart from merchants, had visited, and which was ruled over by an autocratic king and his corrupt court. This was the Kingdom of the White Elephant, and the capital was Amarapura 'The City of Immortals'. Of particular interest is that this work is produced from contemporary newspaper cuttings published in India. Most of the material originated from accounts by serving officers, together with official dispatches from the commanders, some of it often amusing or distressing but all of immense interest.
