Education, in general, and primary education in particular, is an essential input in the process of national development. Primary education is that crucial stage of education which lays the foundation for development. Good primary education requires good teachers. It demands teachers who are of high moral caliber and possess competencies of high level. It was stated in Education Commission Report (1964-66) that "of all the factors that influence the quality of education the competence and character of teacher are undoubtedly the most significant."
This book on teaching competency of primary school teachers is based on a research study conducted by the author for doctoral degree in education. It consists of five chapters. Chapter I provides the basic knowledge of teaching competency. Sufficient coverage on studies related to teaching competencies has been discussed in chapter II. In chapter III, design and procedure of the study including different steps of development of tool etc. have been discussed in detail. Analysis of data, results and their interpretation have been given in chapter IV. In the last chapter findings, their educational implications and suggestions have been given.
