This volume examines critically the centralizing attitudes over the states and union territories. Imposition of President's rule in the state by adopting article 356 is the main focus of this work. Indian unionism, characters, supremacy of Parliament over the states and union territories are also discussed in this work. The role of the governor in the imposition of President's rule in the states and union territories has also been highlighted.
Frequent defections, cross flooring, coalition government and ideological difference among the various political parties in the states generally pave the way for the imposition of the President's rule.
This work covers the period from the commencement of Indian Constitution up to 1976 in general and upto 2002 particularly in case of Manipur so far as imposition of President's rule in concerned.
