Today, young people are, in large measure, inactive, unlit, and increasingly overweight. Physical inactivity threatens to reverse the decades long progress in reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases. Participation in physical activity and sports can promote social well-being, as well as physical and mental health, among young people. Research has shown that students who participate in interscholastic sports are less likely to be regular and heavy smokers or use drugs, and are more likely to stay in school and have good conduct and high academic achievement.
This book takes a positive, light-hearted, and realistic approach to promoting exercise as a way for living a life of health and fitness. Emphasis is placed on presenting the basic information on physical fitness, allowing the reader to choose a fitness programme that is appropriate for his/her way of life. |
