DESCRIPTION
Scheduled castes have been remained Socially, economically and educationally backward since the beginning of caste stratification of Indian Society. The main thrust of the present study is to analyse the various changing patterns of stratification among Scheduled castes in Udaipur city of Rajasthan. The position of the scheduled caste has a bearing on the social structure of the 'Caste Society' that is, division of Hindu Society into caste groups. At the top of the caste hierarchy are the Brahmins and at the bottom are the untouchables. However, some castes within the scheduled castes who have derived considerable benefits from the constitutional provisions have attained an elite status among the scheduled castes have created social classes among them. In the present inquiry, the field work was carried in 20 colonies of Udaipur city where the scheduled castes are residing in low and high concentration of population. The analysis presented in the book can be of interest to researchers, social workers and policy makers.
