DESCRIPTION
Prof. R.C. Sharma was an internationally acclaimed scholar of Indology with specialization in Art-history and museology. After training himself at Mathura Museum he bagged prestigious assignments like Director, Indian Museum, Kolkata and D.G. National Museum, New Delhi. His monumental work on Buddhist Art of Mathura has been well acknowledged in the scholarly world. His sudden demise is a great blow to the Indian academia. To cherish the memory of his humility and magnanimity and above all his scholarship we are bringing out two volumes comprising of research papers on different aspects of Indology. In these volumes a new light has been thrown on some aspects hitherto unexplored. Many Stalwarts of history, art and epigraphy have expressed their scholarly views for the first time in these volumes. Even young scholars have been encouraged to contribute their papers on available material, old and new. Hopefully, these volumes would be well received by all. The editor of these memorial volumes, Dr. S.D. Trivedi is a well known scholar of art history and museology. Author of a number of books, he has edited some important monographs and volumes including "Essays on Indology, Polity and Administration" (Sri R.K. Trivedi Felicitation Volume). He served with distinction and scholarly devotion at the Archaeological Museum, Mathura, Government Museum Jhansi, Allahabad, and the State Museum, Lucknow. Throughout his career and even after his superannuation in 1998, Dr. Trivedi has remained actively busy in academic pursuits. He was closely associated with Dr. R.C. Sharma in one way or another and learnt a lot from him.
