The symposium on Conservation and Management of Fish Genetic Resources of India was a veritable landmark exhibiting presentation of some excellent papers supported by strong data base. The wide variety of modern topics covered included cytotaxonomy, cytogenetics, biochemical genetics, biometrical genetics, resource conservation and stock improvement through genetic manipulations. It helped synthesis of available information on this emerging discipline offish genetics, the relevance of which in a developing country like ours can hardly be over-emphasised. The publication with updated selected papers would serve as baseline information on resource utilization, conservation, management and genetic stock improvement.
The editors have tried to make the publication a consolidated source of information for the use of scientists, scholars, developmental personnel and planners on the diverse facets of fish genetics in India. However, we hope that this attempt, first in the field in the Indian context, would be found useful by the readers. |
