The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, has designated the Centre for Multi-disciplinary Development Research (CMDR), Dharwad as National Educational Data Bank. CMDR took this assignment as a challenge and has made concerted efforts to compile the quantitative and qualitative information relating to Elementary Education as first step, which was published in the year 2003. The present volume is devoted to Higher Education. We have made all the efforts to collect almost all the relevant indicators of Higher Education from both published and un-published sources. The data sources include Governmental and Non-Governmental sources, some of the major individual research studies, websites and also different newspapers.
The major objective is to present in one place all the relevant information relating to Higher Education in order to make it user friendly. The unique feature of this volume is that the relevant data are presented for a long period covering the pre-reform and reform period. They are also presented for all the major states of India, suitably classified as highly developed, medium developed and less developed states.
