The Suvrttatilaka is an outstanding treatise on Classical Sanskrit metres, authored by Ksemendra, a profile writer of Sanskrit, who advocated for the theory of Aueitya which in his considered opinion, constitutes the essence of poetry. The Suvrttatilaka is divided into three chapters called Vinyasa's. The first chapter is devoted to discussions on the features of various types of metres and the second one aims at pointing out the merits and demerits of various metres. The third chapter deserves special attention for the fact that herein the author introduces an interesting discussion on the application of various types of metres on the consideration of their suitability to various rasa-s. The present edition comprises an Introduction, a Sanskrit gloss entitled the Bharativrtti, English renderings of the texts, besides an Index of the karika-s and the verses.
