It is often said when you teach a man you teach an individual but when you teach family. One of the greatest strengts of literacy campaigns in Meghalaya has been the mass participation of women. To be true, about two thirds of the learners in the literacy campaigns in all the districts are women. They have taken part in all the meetings environment building, training and sharing experiences with others. It is interesting that the tribes like Karbi, Kock, Hajong, Rabhas inhabiting different parts of Meghalaya have come forward even to learn the local language Khasi and Garo.
