INTRODUCTION :- The compilation, inputting and editing of the 'Brug lugs chos mdzod chen mo was begun by Ngag dbang tshogs gnyis rgya mtsho, the 3rd Grub dbang tshogs gnyis Rinpoche, near the Svayambhunath Stupa (Kathmandu, Nepal) in the year 1998. Tshogs gnyis Rinpoche initiated this project with the view of fulfilling the long cherished wish of his Guru, the late 8th Khams sprul Don rgyud Nyi ma Rinpoche (1931-1979), as well as with the inspiration and blessings of the present (9th ) Khams sprul Rinpoche, Bshad sgrub Nyi ma (born. 1980). Almost fifty percent of the original texts were brought from Tibet to India in the wake of political upheveal in 1959. A further thirty percent of these very rare texts were added from various sources in Tibet, Bhutan, and the Himalayan regions of Nepal and Ladakh during the recent years. We still need to find some 20 percent of rare titles which could not be included in this Collection. The 8th 'Khrul zhig A Lde'u Rinpoche, Ngag dbang Tshul khrims Bstan 'dzin Rgya mtsho or Grub rigs Khyu mchog (b.1930) has been responsible for the structure of the compilation and its layout. He divided the whole Collection into six headings: 1. Lam gyi ngo bo bstan pa'i sko: "the cycle assessing/describing the origin of the lineage and the quintessential teachings of the path"; 2. Dkyil chog: "the cycle of dkyil ['khor] cho [ga]", which conveys the ripening power of the interrelation between the stages of generation and the method; 3. Khrid rim: "the cycle of ordinary and extraordinary explanations", which secures the deliverance from the interrelation between the stages of perfection and wisdom; 4. Bskyed rdzogs: "the cycle of the stages of generation and perfection", which belongs to the pure bka' ma and gter ma traditions of the old textual translations by some vajra masters of this specific religious lineage; 5. Sgrub 'phrin and chos spyod: "the cycle of the various meditations on the deities" of the rtsa gsum ("bla ma, yi dam and mkha' 'gro") and "the related obligatory liturgical texts"; 6. Thun mong rig gnas: "the cycle of ordinary knowledge" associated with all this. The entire Collection was edited by the late Dge rnam, an ex-monk scholar from Rdor rdzong Monastery ('Go 'jo, Khams) from the onser of the project until his demise on May 8th 1995 with some notable exceptions. A Lde'u Rinpoche edited the ritual cycles (Cho ga phyag len skor) of this Collection, and the 8th Rdor rdzong Rinpoche edited the Mahamudra (Phyag chen) section. All the staff of the 'Brug lugs chos mdzod chen mo office edited and proof-read the Collection four times. The final proof-reading was done by Mkhan po Lha dbang rdo rje. An inventory list of the whole Collection can be found in Volume Three (GA), entitled 'Brug skor phyogs sgrigs byas pa'i glegs bam rnams kyi dkar chag (pp. 347-426), and compiled by Mkhan po Lha dbang rdo rje of Rdza pa snying Monastery. Grub dbang tshogs gnyis Rinpoche bore the cost of the entire project, which finally amounts to 101 volumes with a print-run of 500 copies. All the volumes were published in 2001. All the printed copies were offered to the 9th Khams sprul Rinpoche on October 10th 2001 at Tashi Jong Monastery, Kangra District, H.P., India. |
