For many years our country remained under the British Rule and was exploited to its apex. Agriculture was also in very bad condition. They exploited the peasants. Our traditional industries particularly handicrafts were destroyed. The condition of many people became worse. The history of modern industrial growth in India dates back to about last 150 years which got accelaration due to post independence period. The governament of Indian followed a five years plans in view of agricultural, industrial and over all development of the country. Besides five year plan a number of steps have been taken by the government to make Indian agriculturally and industrially well developed. Industrial development in now a days considered as precondition for modern economic development.
