Abaneri is well known among the art historians and scholars for its magnificent art and architecture. Thus the temple of Harshatmata, originally dedicated to Vishnu, is in ruined condition but it represents haunting pristine glory of early Pratihara period (8-9 century AD). Since the discovery, it was referred in several books and articles in very sporadic manner except in the Encyclopaedia of Indian Temple Architecture. Now the time has came, the site needs reappraisal and detail study of art & architecture in holistic and put them before readers and scholars. This was the soul motto to prepare this comprehensive monograph, which deals in five chapters introduction architecture, art, iconography and a catalogue, which are self contained. The book is suitably illustrated with plans and elevations of temple & baori to facilitate the readers. The Catalogue contains the detail description of 258 sculpture and architectural members which are housed in the different museums of the state as well as on the site. A detail glossary of architectural and iconographic terms have also been provided in the book which caters to the need of young scholars and readers.
