Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a great genius and a personality like him is born once in thousand years. Such a personality does create history and leaves indelible footprints on the sands of time for the generations to come to guide and inspire them to achieve higher goals in life. In the first half of the 20 century, he emerged on the socio-political scenario of India along with Mahatma Gandhi and soon became a front-line leader of the Indian Freedom Movement. Besides, by observing strict discipline he raised the Indian National Congress on to a unique and firm footing. After independence, by merging 554 odd states into the Indian Union within a very short period of time and in an amicable atmosphere, he became matchless in the Indian history as well as the history of the world. Not only this, soon after the freedom of India, Sardar Patel dealt with the law and order situation, the exchange of population and all other administrative problems very efficiently. He helped in the relief and rehabilitation of lacs of refugees migrated to the country and reorganized administrative and police services with a view to Indianise the administration and made the bureaucracy favourable to the democratic set up and to forge a link between people and the government. He led many important committees in the constituent assembly including the fundamental rights committee and made all recommendations keeping in view the national unity and integrity foremost.
