Benaras, the planet's great nerve center, is called Kashi by Hindus-City of light. Also known as varanasi, it sits on the banks (ghats) of the Ganges between the varuna and Asi rivers, its domes and balustrades and pavilions bathed in a surreal glow of other-worldly sunrise.
