In the context of diversification of farm enterprises, sericulture has high potential to provide substantial on-farm and rural employment and it has the capacity to generate attractive cash income. Sericulture has also emerged as one of the most important inter-disciplinary subjects of immense practical utility providing a sound technical basis for the industry. The scope of the present work is to identify suitable line and combinations of silkworm by gathering first hand information on the productive potentialities of various breeds of silkworm in the state of Maharashtra, which is a non-traditional state for sericulture. The study was undertaken to evaluate the relative performance of some popular multivoltine, bivoltine and the F1 progeny of multivoltine female and bivoltine males in different seasons in Maharashtra particularly with reference to different agro-climate regions.
