DESCRIPTION
The Ethnic Conflict in Sri-Lanka assumed a serious dimensions when the Island was rocked by widespread riots and gruesome killings of Tamils in 1983. The year 1983 witnessed ethnic conflict in Sri-Lanka resulting from the discriminatory attitude of Sri-Lanka Government since independence towards Tamil minority. The trouble resulted in the macarab killings of many families. It was the highest type of brutality that the annals of history had ever witnessed. It is since 1950 that the Government of India has been endeavouring to resolve the ethnic conflict in Sri-Lanka as it adversely affected political and economic policies of India in view of the cultural ties between the Tamil families of Sri-Lanka and that of South Indian State of Tamil Nadu.
