DESCRIPTION
The following elements make up the English programme in a secondary school. Once more let us catalogue the several phases of language education in secondary schools. The three large divisions are : (1) Speaking (2) Reading, and (3) Writing under speaking these are eight specific items. These are (1)Informal conservation, (2) giving directions, (3) Making explanations (4) Telephoning (5) Speaking before an audience (6) Formal and informal debating (the latter including symposiums and panel discussions) (7) Declamation of memorized prices of prose and verse, and (8) Speaking as a character in a drama. Similarly reading and writing follow certain principles.
