Saktas are the worshippers of the female energy which is an expression of the age old Hindu recognition of a dual principle in nature, purusha (male) and prakriti (female). The worship is generally directed towards Durga or Kali, Siva's consort.
Sakta hymns and songs contain many references to both the philosophy and the practice of the cult. The lyrics have been translated from the most reliable version of the original text as well as with the help of noted Bengali scholars like Dr. Brajendranath Seal, Dr. Dineshchandra Sen, Pramodekumar Banerji and Ramsaran Ghosh.
These songs have gone to the heart of the people as few poet's works has done.
