Aumapatam is an ancient Sanskrit work on music with an extraordinary metaphysical approach. The essential basis of music, like--Nada Svara, Sruti Murchana, Grama etc. are all included in the work yet the approach to these terms is singularly different. Nowhere else this unusual description of musical terms can be seen. It is in a dialogue form between Siva and Parvati. The name of the work itself suggests the conversation of the divine couple--Uma and her Pati (Siva). The music surrounded and wrapped in mysticism of Tantra philosophy makes the work incomprehensible yet at the same time it is very interesting. Aumapatam is entirely different, unusual and unique work on music.
