Racism represents Discrimination and intolerance. Casteism too stands for discrimination and intolerance and hence there is difference between racism and casteism only in nomenclature and only on surface. Reality shows that, at bottom both racism and casteism are considered same and projections and manifestations of the same mindset and outlook. Both are progeny of bigotry and bias. Both are offspring of inequality and prejudice. Both deny human rights. Many U.N. Committees have agreed that Caste is a category of widespread discrimination.
In this book, an attempt has been made to Study various issues and aspects related to Harijans and weaker sections at macro as well as micro level. It has been sought to examine factors responsible for discrimination, intolerance and untouchability and also study the role of Indian Constitution for upliftment of Harijans. An attempt has also been made to evaluate Harijan welfare programmes being implemented by the government. |
