DESCRIPTION |
|
Higher education system has expanded manifolds as well as new dimensions are being added in the old and outdated higher education system causing tensions, strains, conflicts and problems. Keeping these factors in mind, an attempt has been made to pen down three volumes based on study, research observation, experimentation, discussion on higher education in the 21 century to help the policy makers, planners and decision-makers to understand the dynamics of higher education system and how to streamline it to optimize the benefits as well as how to cope with the new dimensions of higher education. An added factor is to introduce innovative changes to make the institutions of higher education quality conscious and excellent to face the challenges of liberalization, privatization and globalization. Besides, the opportunities offered by information technology are to be utilized to improve educational technology and make use of distance education system in a big way. The organised education would have a significant role to play in providing value based education to our students that focuses not only on the immediate measure as of personal benefit but also on the long term gains to humanity. Designing education programmes which promote economic growth and, at the same time, show equal concern for inculcating basic human values is perhaps the greatest challenge that the educational planners face today. This encyclopaedia of higher education in the twenty first century has been logically divided into three volumes keeping in view the role of higher education in the past, present and future, i.e. 21 century, though each volume supplements the other with forward and backward linkages. Chapters have been supplemented with charts, graphs, tables, illustrations and case studies to make the reading authentic and interesting. These three volumes on "Encyclopaedia of Higher Education in the 21 Century" would be of great use to policymakers, planners and decision makers as well as to all those concerned with higher education. It would be of great relevance to the departments of education in the universities, vice-chancellors, principals in colleges, faculty members in higher education to promote academic excellence and a super knowledge society in this century. |
