Of all aspects of Tibetan medicine the so-called precious or jewel pills (tib.: Rin-chen ril-bu) are particularly associated with mysticism and magic. On 'Precious Pills' no books or publications in a Western language are avilable, and more information than what is written below espically in this enlarged second edition may not be found around the globe. Rin-chen pills, i.e. Jewel pills, these most potent of all admini-strable pharmaceutical in Tibetan Medicine, have been known in Tibet for more than 1000 years. Their origin must certainly be sought in an even earlier period in the Indian Ayurvedic school of thought.
