This book traces the journey of the land and people of Kashmir from the most ancient times to the modern day. It tries to capture the factors that have been responsible for the decline of the Kashmiri civilization from the pinnacle of intellectual, artistic and spiritual glory to its present state of thuggery, bestiality, murder and rapine.
Yet despite everything the book does not end on a dismal note. Life goes on and it will no doubt go on in the Kashmir Valley too. What the future portends for the land and the people, it is difficult to foretell. One would like to believe that the worst phase is over and we can return to the age-old practices of Kashmiriyat, in a true spirit of give and take.
