Aristotle was primarily an encyclopedist and with the partial exception of Democritos, he was the fisrst one. Earliar philosopher had tried to explain the universe but Aristotle, who shared their ambition, was the first to realize that such as explanation should be preceded by as complete an inventory and discription of it as possible.
