Tantrapaddhati better known at isanasivagurudevapaddhati after the name of its author isanasiva is a monumental treatise on Tantra. The renowned author from Kerala belonging to the 12th century has composed this compendium of encyclopaedic nature based on Saivagamas and other Trantric works.
The work is divided into four parts, viz.; Samanyapada. Mantrapada, Kriyapada and Yogapada. The first two Padas form the first part of the book while the other two from the second part. Altogether the treatise consists of 119 chapters called Petalas and deals with a varity of topics such as hymns of various deities; mears of their attainment; their application for averting evil effects; the science of magic; construction and renovation of temples; their consecration; daily rituals and f festivals and numerous other topics of allied interest. More than sixty authoritative works pertaining to a wide range of scientific and technical literature is referred to by the authors as his sources.
The work was originally edited by Mahamahopadhyaya Dr. T. Ganpathi Sastri some sixty years ago in the renowned Trivanddrum Sanskrit Series in four parts. The present edition contains a detailed general introduction and study by Dr. N.P. Unni, Professor and Head of the Dept. of Sanskrit and Dean. Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Kerala.
