Vaisnavism is the direct descendant of the Vedic religion, also known as Brahmanism. It is especially widespread in Middle India (the Deccan) where three-fourths of the population is Vaisnaite, and in Hindustan (India north of Deccan) where one forth is Vaisnavite.
