Continuity: Five Indian English Poets breaks new ground in the study of Indian English poetry. Within its pages it gathers some of the influential and innovative voices of English poetry in India. They are : I.K. Sharma, R.K. Singh, R. Rabindranath Menon, PCK Prem, and Ravi Nandan Sinha who have been widely published and anthologized in India and abroad. Together they represent the whole country: its north, south, east, and west.
Unlike other books of poetry that focus on particular set of poets, this book is organized on the principle of eclecticism.
Beside giving a substantial number of poems of each poet, the editor of the volume has attempted to present, on each poet, considerable critical literature that probes his poetic capability from diverse angles and also sheds light on his use of imagery, symbols and lyricism-in short, his art.
A thread of irony runs through almost all the poems thus providing the volume a sort of Continuity. |
